Join us in the rolling hills of the Noosa Hinterland to camp in the forest and dive deeply into an immersive experience of self-cultivation practices. Over 5 days I will present my approach to internal and external training, inspired by the Daoist and Chinese internal arts. You will learn exercises to open, connect and stabilize your bodily structure, how to effectively sink your awareness into your body, and explore the functions of energetic movement and the mind – all while soaking in the natural rhythms of the forests, caves and hills, free from the distractions of daily life.
No experience is necessary, all of the practices will be introduced in depth and can be scaled to any level of experience.
This is an event designed to immerse us in the practices, as well the rhythms and surroundings of the natural world. For a full experience, we ask that participants do not bring/use any electronic devices for the duration of the retreat. Leave behind your phones, tablets, laptops, watches (smart and regular) and spend the week connecting with yourself and the world around you the old fashioned way.
For those who must remain in emergency contact, please do so discreetly away from other participants. There are very few power points so best to bring charging packs.
The methods I will share can act as a complete practice in and of themselves, or as a way to ‘supercharge’ and understand more deeply any existing physical or spiritual practice you may have. The exercises are inspired by the Daoist and Chinese Internal Arts that I have studied for 20 years, but not limited to them. You do not need to be a Daoist, martial artist or any other ‘ist’ to enjoy the benefits of these practices, and so complete beginners are welcome.
If you already have a practice of yoga, martial arts, qi gong, tai chi, meditation etc, this workshop will bring you a new way of looking at your art, enriching it and possibly helping to reveal any hidden sticking points you may be experiencing.
This is a catered event, providing 2 meals a day on the first and last day, and 3 meals a day on all other days. The food will be super fresh and tasty, and will be mostly plant based meals with some locally sourced ethical meats and eggs and dairy included in some meals during the retreat. You are welcome to bring your own food, but you will need to store it and prepare it yourself (i.e. in your tent or your personal cooler, prepared at your own tent using camp stoves or similar).
If you have specific allergies or dietary requirements, please advise us as soon as possible, and no later than a month prior to the event. If you are a late registration, we will do our best to accommodate your needs but cannot guarantee anything.
No alcohol or drugs are permitted at the retreat.
There are drop toilets and camp showers with hot water on site.
Tank water is accessible to all participants, and there will be filtered jugs available. Please consider bringing a filtered water bottle if you are not comfortable drinking straight tank water.
The venue is in the Noosa Hinterland, about 50 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport. Note that access is via a 2wd accessible dirt road. Parking is available on site in a secluded area to help with the natural immersion, however participants will be able to drive into the venue to unpack and pack up.
A train runs from Brisbane to Noosa Hinterlands, leaving at 9:33am from Brisbane Central and stopping at the Cooran station just after midday. Please advise if you are arriving by train so we can organise a lift for you to the retreat venue. https://jp.translink.com.au/plan-your-journey/timetables/trip/s_T_BRGY_9_20250730_33987597 for details (you will need to select the appropriate date and time).
You can fly into Brisbane Airport (BNE) or Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY).
Brisbane Airport has better international connections and good train connections.
Sunshine Coast airport is closer for driving and has some bus connections but no direct train connection.
